Sri Suttur Veerasimhasana Math was established at Suttur, Nanjangud Taluk, Mysore District by Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Bhagawathpadaru during the second half of tenth century. Raja Chola of Kanchi and Rajamalla of Talkad, the two leading kings of the region who were arch enemies, became friends and staunch disciples of the above guru, after hearing His preaching. Both were instrumental in setting the Math at Suttur. Jagadguru Sri Dr.Shivarathri Rajendra Maha Swamigalavaru, the 23rd pontiff of Sri Suttur Veerasimhasana Math was the architect and founder of J.S.S.Maha Vidyapeetha, which came into being in 1954. H.H.Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamigalu left the mortal world for eternal bliss on 6th December 1986. His successor Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji is the present and 24th pontiff of Sri Suttur Veerasimhasana Math and President of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, since December 1986
The J.S.S College of Nursing was started in Nov. 1997 by the foresight and vision of the present pontiff His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Shivarathreeswara Deshikendra Mahaswamiji to prepare Professional Nurses at university level in order to improve standards of Nursing Service through quality education. The idea was conceived in 1990 and nurtured for seven long years. This is the first college of Nursing started in the city of Mysore as well as the first College of Nursing in Mysore to start the Post Graduation course in Nursing. To maintain the standards of nursing education is its moto and all efforts are made to induct experienced faculty to achieve the goal.
